Travel Insurance
1. Overview
Overseas Travel Insurance
Swinburne staff members are covered by the University's Corporate Travel Insurance through AIG Corporate Travel. To be covered under this policy, you are required to complete an Overseas Travel Insurance Application form and return it to the University Insurance Officer by internal mail (H12) or by facsimile (9214-8958).
Staff members who are to be accompanied by a partner can arrange to have that partner covered by the University's policy at additional personal cost. The Overseas Travel Insurance Application form should be filled in and forwarded to the Insurance Officer who will then obtain a quote from the insurer.
Intra/Interstate Travel Insurance
WorkCover covers employees engaged on a daily basis for work related activities within Australia.

4. Making a Travel Insurance Claim
All insurance claim enquiries should be directed to John Wester, Insurance Officer, Finance Department. The Insurance Officer will provide advice about the acceptibility of the insurance claim and provide the appropriate claim form for doing so.
Travel insurance claim guidelines follow:-
a) In the event that a medical practitioner is consulted whilst overseas a medical certificate must be obtained and all receipts for medical expenses must be retained.
b) Personal property lost or stolen must be reported to the police within 24 hours of the loss and a police report obtained. A claim may be lodged on return.
c) Claims for damage to luggage whilst in transit should, in the first instance, be lodged with the airline concerned and a report obtained. A subsequent claim may be possible on return.
d) An overseas trip to obtain specific medical treatment is not allowed.
e) Staff with a pre-existing medical condition should consult their treating doctor to ascertain their fitness to travel. The ability for the staff member to undertake the trip should be reflected in a doctor's medical certificate that should be attached to the Overseas Travel Insurance Application form.
