** ACER Notebook - Swinburne Equity Awards
In 2009 ACER has generously donated over 50 TravelMate 4730 notebooks to assist low income students or those affected by bushfires with their current studies at Swinburne.
The TravelMate 4730 notebook will be awarded to successful applicants to keep for study and personal use. This means that students will be responsible for any ongoing maintenance and/or the installation of other personal software requirements.
The award is open to currently enrolled Higher Education or TAFE students.

** Commonwealth
Scholarships
The Commonwealth Scholarships Program is a Federal Government
initiative introduced at Swinburne in 2004 to assist
rural and regional, low income and indigenous students,
who are Australian citizens or holders of Australian
permanent humanitarian visas.
There are four types of Commonwealth Scholarships available:

Commonwealth Education Costs Scholarships (CECS) |

- For full-time undergraduate students from
low socio-economic backgrounds to assist with
costs associated with higher education.
- Value of approximately $1,000 per semester
for up to eight semesters provided eligibility
is maintained.
- Applicants can be in any year of their undergraduate
course.

Commonwealth Education Costs Scholarship –
Priority Discipline (National Priority Scholarship)
(NPS) |

- For full-time undergraduate students from
low socio-economic backgrounds to assist with
costs associated with higher education who enrol
in national priority disciplines at Swinburne
University of Technology.
- Value of approximately $1,000 per semester
for up to eight semesters provided eligibility
is maintained.
- Applicants can be in any year of their undergraduate
or their postgraduate course.

Commonwealth Accommodation Scholarships (CAS) |

- For full-time undergraduate students from
low socio-economic backgrounds and from rural
and remote regions.
- Value of approximately $2,000 per semester
for up to eight semesters provided eligibility
is maintained.
- Applicants can be in any year of their undergraduate
course.

Indigenous Access Scholarships (IAS) |
| |
A one-off payment to assist Indigenous students
to access undergraduate study, particularly those
who have had to relocate from a rural or remote
area to study. The payment in 2009 will be $4,166.
For commencing full-time undergraduate Indigenous
students only. Students eligible for an IAS will
also receive a CECS and if eligible a CAS. |
The number of Scholarships available at Swinburne in
2009 are:
55 CECS
30 NPS
31 CAS

Applications for Semester 1, 2009 are now closed.
The Commonwealth has provided guidelines for the allocation
of these scholarships but individual institutions determine
their own selection and allocation processes. Search

** Equity
Scholarships for Final Year Undergraduates
For undergraduate students completing their final year
of studies from a low socio-economic background. Value
of $2,000 each to assist with study costs.

| ** Experience Swinburne Grants
The Experience Swinburne Grants are designed to assist
students from rural areas of Victoria to overcome the
cost of travelling to Melbourne to attend university
Open Days. The Experience Swinburne Grants allow students
from the country to attend Swinburne's Open Day on campus
for next to no cost! Return cost of travel from home
to Melbourne and lunch is provided under the Grant.
The Grant is for students in Year 11 or Year 12 from
a rural area of Victoria.

** Rural
& Regional Equity Scholarships for 1st Year Undergraduates
For first year undergraduate students from a rural/regional
and low socio-economic backgrounds. Value of $3000 each
to assist with study costs.

** Swinburne
Alumni Rural & Regional Equity Scholarship
For a first year undergraduate student from a rural/regional
and low socio-economic background. The Grant is awarded
to an undergraduate with a link through their networks
of friends, family or acquaintances to at least one
Swinburne Alumni member. Value of $3000 to assist with
study costs.

** Swinburne
and Foundation Boroondara Scholarship
For a first year undergraduate student who can demonstrate
financial disadvantage and is studying / residing in
the City of Boroondara. The scholarship will provide
a fee waiver for the duration of the student’s
course at Swinburne provided satisfactory academic progress
is maintained. The successful applicant will also be
awarded a Commonwealth Education Costs
Scholarship

** TAFE Pathways
Equity Scholarship
For a student from a low socioeconomic background who
has been accepted into their first year of undergraduate
study. The applicant will have completed a TAFE course
as a pathway to higher education. Value of $3000 to
assist with study costs.

** Swinburne Equity Scholarship for Refugee or Asylum Seeker
For students from a low socioeconomic background with
Refugee or Asylum Seeker status who have been accepted
into their first year of undergraduate study. Value
of $2000 to assist with study costs. |

** Student Services Achievement Awards
For students who have completed at least one year of study at Swinburne and who can demonstrate that they have been able to overcome adversity in the face of the challenges that life has presented to them. The awards also recognise their resilience and capacity to overcome difficulties whilst continuing to meet their study commitments.
Value of $500.

** Bachelor of Health Science (Public and Environmental Health) Scholarship
For a student from a rural area or from a low socioeconomic
background who has been accepted into their first year
of undergraduate study in a Bachelor of Health Science
(Public and Environmental Health). Value of up to $20,000
course fee waiver (HECS placement for 3 years). Where
eligible the successful applicant will also be awarded
a Commonwealth Education Costs Scholarship and/or a
Commonwealth Accommodation Costs Scholarship.
