What is Swin-eCounselling?

Swin-eCounselling is a service developed for Swinburne University students, provided by staff at Swinburne Student Development and Counselling (Student Services). Swinburne's eCounselling service is designed to provide students with support and advice about issues that may be affecting their study or private wellbeing, via an online question and answer system. You may be experiencing some relationship problems or have some questions about the mental health of yourself or someone you know, for example. Posting a message to the Swin-eCounselling service allows you to ask these questions, which, for whatever reason, you may not feel comfortable asking someone face-to-face.

Swin-eCounselling is not intended to replace therapeutic face-to-face counselling of an ongoing nature, however we can help you with any day-to-day concerns that you may be experiencing, or to establish whether you may benefit from seeing a counsellor or another health professional to help you overcome these difficulties. For ongoing or more serious issues, face-to-face counselling or psychotherapy is usually advised.

The staff at Swin-eCounselling are all qualified and experienced counsellors, with particular experience in dealing with issues that affect students and young adults. Student Development and Counselling staff includes psychologists, social workers as well as postgraduate students in Masters and Doctoral programs in Counselling, Clinical and Health Psychology, all located within Swinburne Student Services. All emails to the Swin-eCounselling service are viewed only by the Swin-eCounselling staff and are kept in strict confidence. You can read our disclosure of information policy for more information.

Making the decision to see a counsellor is often difficult when you need help with personal issues, and many people can be unsure about whether it will help, and what counselling actually involves. If you have any questions about your mental wellbeing, or that of someone you know, the counsellors at Swin-eCounselling can help you. Just submit your question via our question page, and you will receive a response from a qualified counsellor within 2 working days.

Support is available for study, personal and relationship problems and is provided for all currently enrolled students. There is no charge.
