Moving to a new country can be a very confusing and difficult process, especially when commencing studies at University. Culture Shock is the experience of confusion, disorientation, homesickness or loneliness associated with being immersed in an unfamiliar culture. Culture Shock can occur in different ways, and to differing degrees for each person. The following symptoms can be representative of Culture Shock:
- Feeling isolated
- Loneliness
- Withdrawal from social activities
- Hostility towards other cultures
- Depression
- Disorientation
