Q. My boyfriend broke up with me 2 months ago after being with him for 3 years and he owes me money, which he is not paying me back and has put me in financial hardship. I have been feeling really down in the past month and have no motivation to do anything what should I do?
A. Dear Student,
I am very sorry to hear that you have recently broken up with your boyfriend. It sounds like you are having a difficult time dealing with the break up, and the financial hardship that has accompanied it is making it even harder for you. I am wondering if you are still in contact with him? If so, is it possible for you to speak to him about the financial issues and try to settle things with him as soon as possible? If not, Swinburne’s Student Finance Advisors may be able to help in helping you explore available loans to help you out in the short term.
It may also help to speak to someone that you trust, such as a close friend or family member. It is always good to talk about our feelings and to get support.
If you feel comfortable, you could also make an appointment to see a counsellor at Swinburne Student Services to talk about your break up. In this way, the counsellor could be a listening ear and help you through your break up. The counsellors at Swinburne Student Services are very friendly and approachable.
