Overview

This unit enables students to choose, describe, apply and justify assessments and interventions for individuals living in the community who are experiencing occupational performance challenges as a result of mental health problems. Students will develop service provision plans that are occupation based and focus on recovery and/or adaptation.

Learning outcomes

Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:

  • Select and apply an occupational therapy conceptual practice model to scenarios of people experiencing mental illnesses
  • Select and apply professional practice models including recovery and strengths models, which will guide assessment and service provision
  • Analyse person, environment and occupation factors to develop hypotheses about factors contributing to occupational issues in the context of mental illness
  • Articulate professional reasoning and critique of evidence to justify a service provision plan for individuals experiencing mental illnesses
  • Produce creative reports to communicate information to others using relevant literature
  • Appraise qualitative research studies
