Overview

To provide students with the required aviation theoretical knowledge in the areas of Flight Rules & Air Law, Meteorology and Navigation for the Air Transport Pilot Licence (Aeroplane) as detailed in the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) Part 61 Manual of Standards (MOS).

Learning outcomes

Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:

  • Explain the legal and environmental factors that affect flying operations at the Air Transport Pilot Level
  • Explain the purpose, operation and limitations of various navigation equipment and describe the navigation procedures commonly used at the Air Transport Pilot Level
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the unit content sufficient to pass the CASA Air Transport Pilot Licence (Aeroplane) Theory Examinations for Flight Rules & Air Law, Meteorology and Navigation

Content

This unit of study satisfies the theoretical knowledge requirements specified in the CASA Part 61 MOS for three of the seven subjects required for the award of an Air Transport Pilot Licence (Aeroplane) by CASA. It consists of the following areas of aviation theoretical knowledge:
