Aims and objectives

This unit aims to provide an introduction to family therapy. A particular emphasis of this unit relates to develop understanding relating to contemporary psychological theories associated with family problems and their underlying dynamics.
Learning Objectives
After successfully completing this unit, students should be able to:
* Demonstrate understanding of contemporary theory concerning the role and function of the family and its interaction with the wider society.
* Demonstrate understanding of basic counselling techniques associated with working with couples and families
* Demonstrate understanding of the systems approaches to family therapy
* Demonstrate understanding of the contemporary practices of couples therapy
