In the Diploma of Information Technology, you’ll specialise in the field of web design and web development, learning the skills and knowledge needed to work in a range of front-end design and development roles.
You’ll develop skills in web design that focuses on user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) design. You’ll also gain experience in web development that has an emphasis on creating dynamic database-driven web content.
You’ll learn UI design based on UX methodologies, wireframing and mockups with rapid prototyping. You’ll also get to explore image enhancement, Javascript, PHP and the database management system, MySQL.
In semester two, you’ll gain real-world experience when you work on an industry-based project to create a dynamically updatable website for an external client. With staff mentoring, you and your team will manage all aspects of client relations, project management, UI, UX, and web development.

Course description
Persons working at this level are able to provide a wide range of higher level technical skills in ICT areas such as web design, database development, programming and web development.
This course is focused on students learning current industry practices in web design and web development. Students will undertake studies in user interface design based on user experience methodologies, wireframing and mockups using rapid prototyping. Students will also learn photography and image enhancement. Students will also explore PHP, MySQL, Javascript, and version control methods. There is emphasis on various project management methodologies and work in teams to manage and produce a dynamically updatable website designed with UX at its core for an industry based project for an external client.
