Learn the foundational skills required for entry into the ICT industry. When you specialise in web design and development, you’ll gain skills in front-end design, UX and UI design, and using coding such as HTML5, CSS and JavaScript for website development, and frameworks for developing responsive sites. You’ll establish the fundamentals of drawing and design, and learn basic 2D animation and motion graphics.

Graduates will be able to apply their skills in roles such as digital content creator, web animator, front-end programmer, UX designer and more, or pursue further study with a diploma.

Course description

The Certificate IV of Information Technology provides the skills and knowledge to administer and manage information and communication technology (ICT) in small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs) using a wide range of web focused ICT technologies. Graduates working at this level are able to provide a wide range of technical skills in ICT areas such as web design and web development. This course is focused on students learning current industry practices in web design, content creation and web development.

Course structure

Students are required to complete 20 units, including five core units and 15 elective units.

Career opportunities

This course provides prerequisite skills for students wanting to continue their studies in information technology. The career opportunities that may follow from this training are in the fields of web design, UI design, web programming and web animation.

Aims and objectives

This qualification provides students with the skills and knowledge in front-end design, 2D animation, motion graphics, 2D visualisation, rapid prototyping and development of websites. This course enables students to be confident in the processes of UI design, UX, project management, and coding of websites using HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, SQL, and frameworks either as independent front-end specialists or as part of a team. The aim is also to enable students to gain the skills to continue to higher level courses.

Graduate skills

Graduates of this course will develop skills to work in roles such as web UI designer, UX design, digital content creator, web animator, front-end programmer. They will demonstrate the skills required for working as part of a website project team in any of the roles required for front-end web design and development.
