The Certificate II in Electrotechnology Studies (Pre-vocational) aims to provide students with training similar to that of a first-year electrical apprentice. The objective is to develop work skills for the electrical trades, including problem identification and problem solving.
Electricians (and their apprentices) work in domestic, commercial and industrial settings, whether that is doing installations, repairs or diagnostic work. Employers look for apprentices and trainees who are work-ready, adaptable and efficient (as well as dependable and customer-friendly). This pre-vocational qualification is about giving you exposure to the work, equipment and expectations you will face, as well as helping you decide where your interests lie and what sort of work you would like to be doing. Apart from obvious lighting and electrical power work, you could think about refrigeration and air-conditioning, security systems, renewable energy, or industrial and commercial industries.
Being a trained pre-apprentice will give you an advantage over non-trained applicants when applying for either apprentice or trainee positions.
