Admission options - Undergraduate Degrees
Swinburne University of Technology has two main admission intakes per year for Undergraduate programs. One intake is for the 1st semester of the academic year and the other for the 2nd semester of the academic year. There are a number of options available to prospective students and applications can be made via:
For the 1st semester of the academic year students can apply via VTAC and online application.
For the 2nd semester of the academic year students can only apply via online application.
Swinburne TAFE students are offered a place in an Undergraduate degree via Guarantee Entry Scheme or can also apply via Pathway Direct.
Selection criteria for admission for Undergraduate Degrees
The admission of a student at Swinburne is based on academic merit and/or extensive work experience. The following results maybe considered for selection for an Undergraduate program:
- Year 12 results
- TAFE results
- Tertiary study results
- Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT) results
Results form part of the selection criteria for an Undergraduate program. Additionally, it may also be required that specific program pre-requisites are met or other selection requirements are completed. You should review individual program entries in the VTAC guide or via Swinburne's online course information to ensure all aspects of the selection criteria for your chosen program are met.
Results – graded and ungraded
Scored or graded results are required by Swinburne in order to make an assessment for admission into an Undergraduate program. Scored or graded results will show a numerical result and/or a grade such as High Distinction, Distinction, Credit, Pass, A, B, C, etc. Applicants with unscored results may be required to provide additional scored results from any previous studies if available. Applicants will also need to provide a letter of completion/graduation certificate for all ungraded transcripts.
Applicants who are unable to provide scored results maybe required to complete a Special Tertiary Admission Test commonly called a STAT. In order to have STAT results considered for admission, an applicant must apply through VTAC.
Credit Transfer and Articulation
Applicants with prior university or TAFE studies who satisfy part of the academic requirements of the program may be eligible for exemptions that will reduce the number of units of study to be undertaken in the program.
All study has to have been completed within the last 10 years to be assessed for exemptions.
University policies apply to all credit transfer applications, and applicants are assessed on a case-by-case basis. For further information, refer to the credit transfer website.
Applications for credit/exemption must be made at the time of enrolment. A certified copy, or an original and photocopy, of academic transcripts including detailed outlines of subjects studied and evidence of completion of previous studies (where applicable) will need to be provided.
Please note: No credit will be granted in the Information Technology Scholarship Program.
Minimum requirements for non-Year 12 applicants for Undergraduate degrees
In order to meet the minimum requirements for admission into an Undergraduate program at least one of the following needs to be completed:
- Year 12
- Certificate IV, Diploma or Advanced Diploma
- Associate Degree
Consideration for admission into an Undergraduate program is also given for partially completed tertiary programs and programs that are graded and are part of a person's employment.
Additionally, it may also be required that specific program pre-requisites are met or other selection requirements are completed. Note:
* For Product Design Engineering programs, applicants are also required to attend an interview.
** For aviation piloting programs, applicants are assessed on a range of criteria, which also includes an interview and skills assessment test. Before undertaking any practical flying training to a commercial level, student must also pass a CASA Class 1 Medical examination.
