Security Statement

SwinLink is a secure site (using SSL) and conforms to the University's Information Technology Security Policy.

To access SwinLink the input of a valid combination of Web User Id and password is required. The password constitutes the electronic signature of the user, and users acknowledge and accept that Swinburne University of Technology cannot do a comparison of a user's manual signature for SwinLink online transactions. It is vital that users keep their password secure and protected.

SwinLink also stores a self-nominated security question that must be answered correctly before access to particular information or services will be granted.

Access to all information held by the University about a student is governed by the Confidentiality of Student Records Policy.

Breaches relating to SwinLink access will be dealt with in accordance with the Student Network Disciplinary Procedure.

Suggested precautions

To protect the integrity and privacy of information provided or accessed via SwinLink, users are advised to take the following precautions:

  • Do not share your password with someone else or leave it accessible for someone else to view.
  • If your initial password is your date of birth, change your password as soon as possible to something that is difficult for someone else to know or guess.
  • If your initial security question and answer relate to your date of birth, change these as soon as possible to a question and answer that is difficult for someone else to know or guess.
  • Always Log Out of SwinLink when you have finished using the button provided.
  • Web browsers remember what you have been doing (caching), so always close your web browser when you have finished using SwinLink. If you leave your web browser running, someone else may be able to view information you provided or accessed during your session.
  • If you have reason to believe someone else can access your SwinLink account contact the SwinLink Help Desk immediately.
