The academic dress, or regalia, worn at Swinburne today is a modification of everyday dress worn by scholars and teachers in the middle Ages and Renaissance.

 

Hire academic dress

Hiring academic dress for Graduation Ceremony

If you are attending a Swinburne graduation ceremony, your regalia hire is included in the graduation fee. Your regalia requirements are taken from your PDF Application for Award/Graduation and will be available at the ceremony venue for use during the ceremony.

 

Hire of academic dress for other events

If you are not attending a Swinburne graduation ceremony, or would like to hire regalia at a time other than at a Graduation, the below information applies to you.

  • To hire academic dress, fill in the PDF Application for Academic Regalia Hire.
  • Note: You must eligible to hire/wear academic dress. Therefore, you must have graduated from your course of study or, have had your award approved and are awaiting graduation. If possible proof of this should be provided on application, e.g. Letter of Completion or testamur.
  • This form must be returned to the Graduations Department one week prior to the date you require the items.
  • The casual hire period is usually 24 hours, and items must be returned by 4.30pm on the due date.
  • You will also be liable for additional fees if items are returned late which will be deducted at $39.00 for each day late from the $200 deposit.

Swinburne has academic dress for sale. If you would like to purchase regalia, please complete an PDF Application to Purchase Academic Regalia.
