Chance
and Gaming
Gambling
is becoming pervasive in our society. Gambling is
now a huge industry, with total gambling losses in
Victoria from 1997-1998 reaching $3.19 billion. The
study of probability first arose from problems associated
with gambling, and the gaming industry remains a
source of interesting applications of many of the
methods taught in beginning probability and statistics
courses.
