Kay has had a long association with Swinburne including the move from an Institute of technology to becoming a University in 1992. She has been involved with the Graduate Certificate in Learning & Teaching (Higher Education) since 2003, and has worked closely with the Faculty of Business as an Educational Development Advisor (2000-2007), and then the Academic Development Advisor 2008-2010. She joined the newly formed SPL in January 2008. During July 2007 until December 2008 she was seconded out of the Faculty to work two days a week on a university-wide LTPF funded Project “Internationalisation of the Curriculum”. Since that time she has returned to her Faculty work and continues her association with the Internationalisation Theme by developing and convening the new Graduate Certificate Unit LTS505 Internationalisation of the Curriculum.  She also tutors in the other units on a needs basis.

Her research interests include exploring ways to internationalise the curriculum in practice, educational technologies as ways to engage diverse student needs and providing ways to facilitate and support academic staff in adapting their teaching practices to meet a diverse learning needs and learning contexts.  She is also interested in using creative forms for representing research and also finding ways of building and sustaining a sense of resilience and self-expression in a changing world.  As an educational development professional Kay believes it is essential to create a conducive collegial environment where sharing of ideas, knowledge and skills thrives.

Kay has been a professional educator for 9 years. She completed her Masters in Professional Education and Training from Deakin University in 2006. Her mini-thesis focused on “Reflections of Resilience in the Lives of Academic Staff” and has developed specific expertise around internationalisation of the curriculum and how it relates to teaching practice.
