Developing professional skills in students is a key part of the Swinburne Professional Learning Model. Academics and staff involved in developing such skills and giving feedback to students, gathered on Tuesday 9 December 2008, at the ' What Works When' forum being run by Swinburne Professional Learning (SPL).
Staff heard from industry about their expectations of graduates and what skills they are looking for. Discussions included: examples of good practice; strategies for incorporating the development of professional skills for students in teaching; and how to provide feedback to individuals on their skill development. Patrick Coleman - the Business Council of Australia. He is a Director Policy, responsible for Education, Skills and Innovation. Patrick worked as a policy adviser in the Federal Government on education, skills, science, research and agriculture. He also worked in the national security area, as a policy adviser on transport and critical infrastructure. Patrick presented on the expectations of business about the professional skills of graduates. |
Professor Bradley - is Associate Director - Accreditation with Engineers Australia. Professor Bradley coordinates the formal accreditation of institutions. Professor Bradley presented his advice in a short video. |
David Norman - Manager, Asset Investment with Melbourne Water. David plays a key role in capital planning, stakeholder negotiations and project approvals relating to delivery of Melbourne Water’s capital investment. David addressed employer expectations of graduating engineers.

Mike Fegan - Vice President of the Game Developers' Association of Australia and CEO of Transmission Games http://www.transmissiongames.com/. Mike is a leader in multi-platform game development. Transmission Games continues to break new ground, developing a number of next-generation titles, on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii. Mike presented on expectations of graduates in areas relating to multimedia development, design and ICT.
