Professional Practice

Swinburne University of Technology has a proud 40 year tradition of providing undergraduate industry experiences and continues to strengthen and extend its range of professional experiences for students.

A wide variety of industry relevant experiences are integrated into the Swinburne undergraduate programs, with significant benefits in student career opportunities, employability and satisfaction.

Currently these include internships, capstone projects, industry placements and the famed Swinburne IBL program. In each case, student entry into programs is supported by experiential and industry relevant learning in programs, and the zero credit point Careers in the Curriculum unit offered to second and third year students.

Currently approximately 2000 Swinburne undergraduate students are enrolled in Capstone Projects, while up to 500 students take up industry placement positions each year.

SPL staff support programs with curriculum development advice, and program support for the IBL, BIT and IP programs. SPL are also currently responsible for the employer evaluation of IBL programs, and publishes the annual report on IBL.
