Australian Catholic University	The space includes glass boards on several walls for student use, chairs and tables on castors for ease of movement, semi circular and rectangular tables to facilitate different seating arrangements, and an interactive white board. Chinese University of Hong Kong	The space is named the Esther Lee Informal Study Area (ELISA) and contains 14 seats in the Sofa Area, 14 seats in the High Chair Area and 40 seats in the Study Table Area, together with an outdoor area.	Observations and surveys
Glasgow Calendonian University	The Saltire centre offers access to the 260,000 book library, 1800 study places and 450 PC stations. The centre also houses the Base, which provides access to nearly all student support services. Massachussets Institute of Technology	The TEAL (Technology Enhanced Active Learning) spaces at MIT consists of two 3,000 square feet classrooms for teaching introductory physics in an active format.	Direct observations of classes in session of five different classes by three different observers

Nottingham University	A refurbishment of the Hallward Library (Arts and Social Sciences Library) at the centre of the main University consists of short stay spaces, open-space flexible group work spaces and individual & group quiet study spaces.	Audio diaries kept over 7-day period in a range of locations within the library and at home, summarizing and reflecting on individual private study sessions, ethological observations, on-task conversations, and focus groups.
Stanford University	Wallenberg Hall encompasses 5 high performance learning space classrooms. Several noteworthy features of these spaces include in-room writing surfaces, lightweight transportable white boards, in-room computers with dual screens, laptops, and adjacent breakout space. Swinburne University of Technology	The Hawthorn Project Hub is a creative space dedicated to students undertaking their major capstone projects. The Hub incorporates meeting rooms, and social and open working spaces.	Online survey, focus groups.Diamond ranking method, visual mapping method
Swinburne University of Technology	Hawthorn library comprises 5 floors of the LB building and four floors of 60 William Street. It has approximately 1050 seats in a combination of group and individual study spaces; 10 student meeting rooms and approximately 280 bookable computers.	Online survey
University of Ballarat	The Mt Helen campus library combines a mix of traditional library print and other physical format collections together with learning and study spaces including information commons, and individual and group study areas.	Mixed methods
University of Gloucestershire	The CeAL provides both flexible and social learning spaces. The final design was organised around three zones: the Resource Zone, the Project Zone, and the Conference Zone. University of Queensland, TEDI	The Collaborative Teaching and Learning Centres ( CTLC’s) are advanced teaching and learning spaces located on the St Lucia and Gatton Campuses of UQ and now number 9 spaces across the two campuses. University of Technology Sydney	The UTS Library Levels 4 & 5 contain a silent study room, small group study rooms, presentation practice rooms and individual study spaces. A large seminar room and a collaborative learning centre were also created.	Standard online survey
University of Wisconsin-Madison	The room is roughly 42’x30’ with a 20 foot ceiling, and floor to ceiling windows on three walls. The space had been popularized as a “top secret study spot” for students, citing its quiet atmosphere, proximity to a computer lab, and natural light.	Informal evaluation only
