Graduate Certificate in Learning & Teaching (Higher Education)
The Graduate Certificate program aims to enhance teaching and learning practice through reflection and the exploration of educational theories.
Successful completion of the first unit also meets the related probation requirement of Swinburne University. Ongoing and contract teaching staff new to both Swinburne and teaching are expected, according to employment guidelines, to complete the unit LTS501 The Practice of Learning and Teaching in the first 12 months of their appointment. |

To qualify for the award participants must complete 4 units of study (12.5CP each) as follows:
Core units offered by Swinburne University of Technology:
- LTS501 The Practice of Learning and Teaching (pre-requisite to remaining units)
- LTS503 Curriculum Design and Assessment
- LTS504 Independent Professional Project (Final unit that requires prior completion of LTS501 and LTS503, and either of LTS502 or LTS505)
One unit from the following:
- LTS502 Learning and Teaching with Educational Technologies
- LTS505 Internationalisation of the Curriculum
- With prior approval of the program panel, pertinent units offered in other Swinburne postgraduate programs or by other universities

Entry requirements and eligibility
Applicants should have a bachelor degree from a recognised tertiary institution or equivalent. Applicants must be currently teaching in Higher Education (or TAFE at Higher Education level). Sessional academic staff are eligible to take the program. Applications for the program should be endorsed by the applicant's Deputy Dean or equivalent.
Cost and financial arrangements
The program is nominally a fee-paying program at $1,350 per unit. It also offers Employer
Reserved Places. Approved Swinburne University staff, including sessional staff with a
current teaching commitment at Swinburne, may be admitted without fee. In this case tuition
is provided as part of the professional development responsibilities of Swinburne Professional
Learning.

- Complete the form and have it endorsed by the Deputy Dean of your faculty.
- Send the form (including any applications for exemption or RPL via fax: 9214 4328 or internal mail: H20 "Attention Administrative Officer SPL".
NB: Applications for exemption or recognition of prior learning must be submitted upon first enrolment and will be considered by the Courses Committee. There are currently no credit transfer arrangements for the program.
- The form is reviewed by the Selection Committee and the applicant will be notified of the decision by email.
- Successful applicants will be given details of orientation and first workshop.

Past participants comments and videos
All new program participants will be enrolled in LGC500 The Graduate Certificate in Learning & Teaching (Higher Education). On completion of LTS501 and LTS503 participants may exit the program and be awarded the Professional Certificate of Teaching Practice. If participants choose this option, then under the nested programs policy and procedure, at least one Semester must elapse before participants can re-enter GCLT. |
