Assessment
What is it?
Student assessment is about finding out the success or failure of the conduct of an educational course by means of some methods which measure the congruence between the expected and actual learning outcomes. Since assessment can have far-reaching effects on the lives and careers of students, it is a serious business that teachers need to think carefully about.
Why use it?
To devise good student assessment, a teacher needs to have a clear understanding of the purposes of assessment, main theoretical concepts and principles underpinning effective assessment, and how to design appropriate methods and instruments for use in the teacher's own discipline. This section aims to provide relevant information to all these.
