Cooperative Education at Swinburne combines
learning in the classroom with learning on the job. Students
put their academic knowledge into action through relevant
(and usually paid) work experience with real-world employers.
Students then bring the skills and insights they have acquired
during their on-the job placement back into the classroom
to inform their future studies. Cooperative Education at Swinburne
emphasizes an ongoing relationship between the University,
the employer, and the students.
There are many ways students can gain industry experience. Many of our faculties have developed Cooperative Education models that meet the specific needs of their discipline or industry. Some of these programs are identified below. Due to Australian government regulations, the optional Industry-Based Learning program is currently not available to international students.
Swinburne currently has a major project; Integrating
Professional Placements into the Curriculum, where
the Cooperative Education Office is working closely with the
Faculties to extend the range of programs we offer students.
