Swinburne is an internationally recognised research-intensive university. We deliver innovative research solutions to real-world problems and our research-related investment, funding and output is growing rapidly.
In 2017, Swinburne has been ranked in the top 25 per cent of universities featured in the inaugural Times Higher Education Asia-Pacific University Rankings.
For the fourth consecutive year, Swinburne was also ranked among the world’s top 400 universities by the Times Higher Education University World Rankings 2016–2017. In 2017, Swinburne was ranked for the third time in the Times Higher Education 100 Under 50 Rankings, an index of the world’s top universities under the age of 50.
In 2016, Swinburne was listed in the world's top 500 universities in the prestigious Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU). This places us in the top 3 per cent of universities around the world. Swinburne achieved a top 75 ranking in the ARWU in the field of civil engineering and has ranked in the top 200 institutions in the world in science.
In 2015, the ARWU also ranked Swinburne in the top 100 in the field of physics. As one of only two Australian universities to achieve this, Swinburne’s success is a testament to the value of the significant investments made in targeted research and research infrastructure. We are now ranked twelfth among Australian universities and third within Victoria.
Swinburne has also been recognised as having one of the best design schools in the world by the 2016 QS World Rankings of Universities by Subject. The university was one of only four institutions in Melbourne to be listed in the top 100 for the Art and Design subject area. The QS World University Rankings 2018 again included Swinburne in its top 500.
