Decide on a research topic
Before you apply for a research degree, decide on the research area you are interested in and the project you would like to conduct. You may choose an area of personal or professional interest, a major you completed in previous studies, or you may choose to continue research you have undertaken in an honours year.
Your topic should align with one of our research outcome areas, or areas of research focus. Read more about our projects and researchers and find a research group or centre that best fits with your research interests.
There are also a number of set PhD topics available, set by Swinburne researchers, which are linked to existing research projects.
