Biography

Mark has over 20 years experience in the consulting and accounting industries including as a partner at Deloitte and a principal of Pickering Byrnes Consulting.   Mark spent over five years in audit in Australia and California before moving into management consulting.  Mark has consulted to large and small corporations, government departments and not for profit organisations on strategic planning, organisational and process improvement,  performance measurement, business case development, mergers and acquisitions and costing products, services, customers and processes.

Mark graduated from Swinburne University with a Bachelors of Business (Accounting), the University of California at Los Angeles with an MBA and RMIT University with a Doctorate of Business Administration.  Mark qualified as a Chartered Accountant in Australia and as a Certified Public Accountant in Calfifornia (currently inactive).   Mark's research interests include the management of accounting and other professional service firms including emerging ownership forms, such as publicly owned accounting firms, governance, mergers and acquisitions and innovation.   He is also researching the implications of emerging technologies on the delivery of financial services and the impact on industry structure and business models.  Mark's articles have been published in peer reviewed academic journals including: Organization Studies; Journal of Organizational Behavior; Journal of Professions and Organization; Australian Accounting Review.  Mark's articles have also been published in the the journals of professional associations such as the Australian and New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants, the Australian CPA's and the Australian Institute of Company Directors and in Cost Management on topics such as Activity Based Costing, customer lifetime value, lean accounting and mergers and acquisitions.
