Course content

The Graduate Certificate of Business Management (Retail Management) consists of three core units and one elective:



Managing in a Complex World

This unit provides a broad understanding of management in an increasingly complex and diverse global environment. The management role will be examined from the perspective of direction setting, decision making and strategic planning; organising, communications and information technology; human resource management and the management of change and innovation; the leadership role covering the basics of organisational behaviour, group and team dynamics; motivation and leadership styles; performance management function and value chain management.



Retail Management Framework

This unit provides students with an understanding of the traditional framework of retailing by analysing retailing models, methodologies, tools and systems. This knowledge is then challenged by the realities and complexities of retailing in a competitive environment, including the emergence of retailing technologies.



Retail Marketing and Operations Management

This unit provides an understanding of the importance of adopting a strategic approach to retailing in a complex, competitive and changing environment. This overarching strategic approach is supported by a focus on retail data collection and analysis, retail marketing, advertising, merchandising and the operational aspects of a retail business, including pricing.



The Elective Component

The elective component enables the retail practitioner to select a unit from the key disciplines of; Marketing, Human Resource Management, Project Management, Public Relations, Finance, Corporate Governance, Business Excellence, and Supply Chain Management. In this way you can tailor your course to suit your present position or future career aspirations.
