FAQs: Fees and FEE-HELP

How much will a postgraduate course at Swinburne cost me?

Tuition fee details for postgraduate courses can be found at Swinburne's Fees website.

Students might also need to allow for the purchase of books or equipment necessary for your course.

What are the fees per unit for postgraduate courses?

The fee for each unit varies and it is listed under each individual course outline.

Please visit the Postgraduate Courses section of this website to search for the course that you are after.

What is FEE-HELP?

FEE-HELP is a loan offered to eligible fee-paying students to help pay part or all of their tuition fees.

Students can choose to defer all or part of the cost of the fee-paying course and pay the debt back through the taxation system.

Am I eligible for FEE-HELP?

Students are eligible for FEE-HELP assistance if they:

  • Are enrolled in a fee-paying undergraduate or postgraduate non-research course.
  • Are not a Commonwealth supported student.
  • Are an Australian citizen or a holder of an Australian permanent humanitarian visa (who meets eligibility requirements).
  • Meet the Tax File Number (TFN) requirements.
  • Have not exceeded the FEE-HELP limit.

How much can I borrow?

The Commonwealth Government has set a FEE-HELP limit of $81,600 and $102,000 for students studying dentistry, medicine or veterinary science. This amount is indexed each year.

FEE-HELP does not cover any administrative fees. Accommodation and living expenses are also not included. Students who are eligible for FEE-HELP will have three options for payment:

  • Pay the full tuition fee up-front.
  • Pay some of the tuition fee up-front and request a FEE-HELP loan for the remainder of the tuition fee.
  • Request a FEE-HELP loan for the full tuition fee.

When do I start repaying my FEE-HELP loan?

Students will begin repaying their loan through the taxation system once their income reaches the minimum threshold for compulsory repayment.

For further information visit the Government’s Going to Uni website or call the new student funding measures enquiry line on 1800 020 108.
