CAOUS was established at Swinburne as a new strategic initiative in 1999. The Centre, led by Professor Peter Hannaford, is part of the Faculty of Engineering and Industrial Sciences.  CAOUS, together with the Centre for Micro-Photonics (CMP) is housed in the Swinburne Optics and Laser Laboratories (SOLL)
