- Skills and Jobs centre opened at Swinburne’s Wantirna campus
- Centre will provide education and employment support to local community
To create better education and employment outcomes, a new Skills and Jobs centre has opened at Swinburne’s Wantirna campus.
The centre was launched on Tuesday 31 July by Shaun Leane, Member for Eastern Metropolitan Region, and forms part of the existing Swinburne Hub.
It will serve the community in the south-east of metropolitan Melbourne, from Knox through to the Dandenong Ranges.
“The centre will work closely with local government, youth support networks and business networks in the three local government areas of Knox, Maroondah and Yarra Ranges to support all members of our local community with education, training, career and employment information and advice,” Linda Kearley, Manager of Swinburne Hub, says.
‘Learn Locals’, organisations offering education and training programs, and the Outer Eastern Local Learning and Employment Network will also work with the centre to provide support to visitors.
The centre will provide:
- Careers and course advice
- Job searching assistance and workshops
- Assistance preparing resumes
- Apprenticeship and traineeship advice
- Skills identification
- Training pathways.
It will connect with a wide range of visitors including prospective and current students, apprentices, trainees, unemployed workers, parents returning to work, migrants and refugees or anyone in the community seeking a career change.
Employers and industry partners are also encouraged to connect with the centre.
The newly launched Wantirna centre follows the launch of the Swinburne Skills and Jobs centre at Eastland Shopping Centre and the Skills and Jobs Centre located at the Swinburne Croydon campus.
