KIOSC, Swinburne’s innovative educational centre, will be hosting a parent and teacher information night to showcase career opportunities and pathway programs.

As part of National Science Week, the information night is designed to show casse the education and graduate opportunities that studying science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM subjects) can provide for students.

Parents and teachers will be given the opportunity to meet representative from global businesses in the STEM field including CumminsThermo Fisher ScientificDavey and STC Australia.

There will be a key note industry speaker address from Erol Harvey, PhD, co-founder and CEO of MiniFAB, who will discuss the current employment landscape and rapid growth in STEM related occupations, and presentation about pathway programs into higher education from Swinburne University.

KIOSC director Kate Kent Evans said: “At KIOSC we are committed to connecting students to their future.

“We also understand that for parents and teachers helping kids navigate the higher education field, where there are just so many study options and pathways can be difficult.

“Our goal in creating this information evening is to help inform you about the diversity of jobs in Science, Innovation, Engineering and Technology, and the pathways students can follow to access these careers.”

KIOSC is a joint initiative between a number of high schools in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs, including Bayswater Secondary College, Boronia K-12, Fairhills High School, Scoresby Secondary College, Rowville Secondary College, Wantirna College, Waverley Christian College and Swinburne University of Technology.

The goal of KIOSC is to emphasize practical learning, improve scientific literacy and critical thinking skills and raise student’s aspirations for their own futures.

KIOSC’s Careers in Science and Technology information night is a free event and will be held on Thursday 21August at Caribbean Business Park in Scoresby; 1280 Ferntree Gully Rd, Scoresby VIC 3179
