Swinburne launches its first Industry Open Day
Tuesday 24 June 2014
Swinburne’s Wantirna campus is open today for local businesses to connect with industry experts on ways to grow their business, improve practices and solve current challenges.
An initiative of and partly funded by Melbourne East – Regional Development Australia, Swinburne will host an Industry Open Day at both its Wantirna and Hawthorn campuses to encourage collaboration between research, educational institutions and local businesses in Melbourne.
“These events will offer business attendees a fresh perspective of universities as valuable business partners. It also gives our staff the opportunity to meet with prospective business partners from the local area and forge important networks and connections,” Andrew Smith, Vice-President (Engagement), Swinburne University of Technology said.
Rod Hill, Acting Chair, Melbourne East – Regional Development Australia said global competition has underlined the need for Australian businesses to remain innovative in order to get ahead of the pack.
“The Swinburne Industry Open Days promote collaboration and engagement with the private sector by throwing open the University's doors of its campuses at Wantirna and Hawthorn.
“This is a watershed initiative by Swinburne and is likely to become the model for more productive and impactful engagement between business and the tertiary sector,” he said.
Sessions at the Wantirna Industry Open Day include:
- Business knowledge market and expo: An opportunity for local businesses to connect one-on-one with Swinburne’s industry experts
- Innovation master classes: Industry, government, academic and community experts will explore ways to gain practical tools to transform businesses
- Business case study and networking forum: Industry-university collaboration success stories will be discussed by a panel consisting of industry, government and academic representatives.
