Paper: Increase the Use of Scrap Paper

Download an Increase the Use of Scrap Paper Information Flyer (Doc 41kb)

Background

Most office working environments are highly paper intensive, and much of this paper is only used on one side before being discarded. One simple way to reduce the flow of our paper waste stream is to increase the usage of single sided (once-used) paper.

If we make it a habit to capture and reuse all single sided paper before recycling it, we will not only significantly cut down the amount of waste we generate, but also reduce our consumption of virgin paper products (such as notepads), thus saving natural resources and money.

Action

bullet

Use the lid of a copy-paper box as an in tray for single sided paper. To ensure single sided paper is captured before being discarded, one such tray can be placed near every printer and photocopier, as well as at your desk.

bullet

Make yourself an A4 or A5 reused-paper notepad by stapling or binding the reused paper sheets together. You will find that there’s enough scrap paper around to almost completely avoid the consumption of virgin paper notepads.

bullet

Place an envelope near your telephone and fill it with notes made of your single sided paper – you will be amazed how many virgin sticky notes you can avoid just by doing that!
