Green Office Culture: Creating Green Spaces
Download a Creating Green Spaces Information Flyer (Doc 134kb)
Background
A Green Space is a visible area in your department that displays environmental information as well as simple Green Office actions. Creating a Green Space is not only a fun thing to do, but it will also help to raise awareness in your department.
A Green Space:
Allows an opportunity to peruse environmental information in staff’s own time |
|
Provides constant reminders to passers by about Green Office habits |
|
Is a place for people to go when they want more information |
A Green Space is also an opportunity for you to highlight the good work that others are already doing – take some photos and pin them up. Everyone loves to be told when they are doing something right!
Action
Create a Green Space in your department! It could be:
A pin board in the staff tearoom |
|
An unused corner that everyone always walks past |
|
A display area in the hallway |
Ideas for the display:
Decorate the Green Space – make it fun and interesting to look at so it draws people’s attention |
|
The regular Green Tips provided by the Green Office Program help make being a Green Office easy and simple – pin them up in your Green Space |
|
Pin up facts and figures about the environment, particularly if they relate directly to the office |
Did you know?
A real green space has been created in Melbourne!
A Melbourne building, originally built in 1876, has been renovated to incorporate environmental sustainability in its design, construction, operation and management. It houses a number of environmental organisations. Plants are used to cool and oxygenate the air and treated water is used in irrigation. A water feature with plants and fauna inside the building greets visitors.
