Purpose/Aim
Skybus Super Shuttle acknowledges the unique opportunity the transport sector has in addressing the issue of climate change. Skybus has engaged the National Centre for Sustainability (NCS) to develop a sustainability policy, strategy, action plan and sustainability report for the organisation as a whole.
One of the aims of the sustainability strategy and action plan is for Skybus to become a full signatory of the UITP Charter on Sustainable Development. The UITP is the International Association of Public Transport, of which Skybus was a pledge signatory when first engaging the NCS.
Project Background
Skybus operates the world-class public transport service between Melbourne Airport and the CBD, transporting more than one million air travellers a year on one of Victoria's busiest routes. Skybus is a private, family owned company and has run the flagship airport to city route since 1978.
The International Association of Public Transport (UITP) is the worldwide network of public transport professionals and represents over 2700 urban, local, regional and national mobility actors from more than 90 countries on all continents.

Outcomes to date
Sustainability Policy
A environmental policy has been developed to be the primary document that guides the organisations activities and decisions. It include references to each significant activity and impact area, including (but not limited to) waste, water, energy, purchasing, staff management, and community liaison.
The Sustainability Strategy & Action Plan
The Strategy is the critical mechanism to the uptake of the commitments in the policy. The plan was collaboratively developed to be deliverable, widely consulted, demonstrate reasonable return on investment, stretching where possible and meaningful. To support the on-going strategy, an Action Plan was required to deliver the changes required with a clearly allocated timeline and accountability.
Skybus becomes a full signatory to the UITP Charter for Sustainable Development
In Helsinki (May 2007) Skybus becomes a full signatory to the UITP Charter on Sustainable Development.
