Background

The National Centre for Sustainability (NCS) at Swinburne was commissioned by Phillip Island Nature Parks from January to July 2006 to provide strategic sustainability input into the Management Plan 2006-11(MP06-11) and the organisation as a whole. In doing so, the NCS identified and recommended a number of actions that were outside of the scope of the Management Plan itself, and instead more relevant to other business planning and operational documents.

Project Status

The project will commence in December 2006 with an expected completion date of June 2007.

Expected Outcomes

Sustainability Policy

A sustainability policy will be written for the organisation as a whole. The policy will be the primary document that guides the organisations activities and decisions. It will include references to each significant activity and impact area, including (but not limited to) waste, water, energy, purchasing, staff management, and community liaison.

Sustainability Procedures/Checklists

A comprehensive set of procedures and checklists tailored to the requirements of each department will be developed, which will capture all of the functions and impacts of each department and provide sustainability checks to guide decision making.

These activities will build the overall capacity of Phillip Island Nature Parks to pursue its vision resulting in improved sustainability outcomes for the organisation, the community and the natural environment.
