Objectives

In early 2007, Oxfam Australia engaged the NCS to develop a comprehensive environmental policy and a management plan to reduce the impacts of it various operations and assist in its goal of carbon neutrality.

Background:

Oxfam as an organisation has a range of visions and policies clearly identifying its approach to social sustainability.  In recognition that all organisations have environmental impacts, Oxfam decided that the organisation should more clearly articulate how it can reduce its impact on the planet.

Outcomes to date :

Sustainability Policy
A environmental policy has been developed to be the primary document that guides the organisations activities and decisions. It include references to each significant activity and impact area, including (but not limited to) waste, water, energy, purchasing, staff management, and community liaison.

Environmental Management Plan
The Management Plan is the critical mechanism to the uptake of the commitments in the policy. The plan is collaboratively developed to be deliverable, widely consulted, demonstrate reasonable return on investment, stretching where possible and meaningful.
