Objectives

To assist the organisation in understanding the major environmental impacts of its operations, Landcare Australia Limited (LAL) engaged the NCS to conduct a sustainability assessment of its operations Australia wide.

Background:

LAL has a mission clearly identifying its approach to environmental sustainability and in recognition that all organisations have environmental impacts, the Board and staff of LAL decided that it was necessary to determine its own environmental impacts.

Assessment & Recommendations
Information gathered during the assessment was documented and presented in a Recommendation Brief with clearly identified opportunities for improvement.  The content was developed to encourage staff to reduce their impact on the environment and thus reduce the impact of the organisation. These recommendations are realistic and based on changes in practice rather than a series of costly technology based solutions.

A ‘Carbon Footprint’
Calculating a verifiable carbon footprint required the establishment of a clear inventory of emission sources for LAL.  This process provided LAL with a clear indication of the relative emission intensities of its various business functions and established a benchmark for future reduction strategies.
