Kangan Batman TAFE EcoFootprint Calculator
Purpose/Aim
The objective of this project is to develop an Ecological Footprint calculator specifically for Kangan Batman TAFE (KBT) and its campuses.
Development and delivery of a tailored training session to accompany this tool will educate KBT staff, students and stakeholders of the significance of KBT's ecological footprint.
Kangan Batman TAFE will replicate ‘EcoFootprint' calculations to measure the success of efforts to reduce their environmental impact and highlight the critical few to target their efforts to achieve greatest environmental gain.
The training will further engage of KBT staff and students in sustainability and the tool and training will serve as a model for other TAFE institutions.
Stakeholders/Partners
Under its Sustainability Covenant with EPA Victoria, Kangan Batman TAFE has engaged the National Centre for Sustainability at Swinburne to develop the traning module, in partnership with the Centre for Design at RMIT, who will develop the EcoFootprint tool.
Project Background
There are presently a range of Ecological Footprint calculators available nationally and internationally. These include the suite of calculators available on the EPA Victoria website, the Global Footprint Network Calculator and Best Foot Forward's Municipal Council Calculator.
Both the Centre for Design at RMIT and the National Centre for Sustainability at Swinburne University have experience in building and delivering ecological footprint calculators. To meet the objectives the two organisations will develop a partnership that builds on the strengths of both organisations.
Project Status
The project commenced in April 2006 with an expected completion date of December 2006.
Expected Outcomes
NCS will develop an Ecological Footprint training module with resources for staff and students of KBT. This will also include a manual styled document for the user. Information on communications of results and data management will be provided.
The project report will comment on how to further incorporate Ecological Footprint into the TAFE sector, how to use the footprint results and how to establish ongoing footprint measurement within KBT.
