Bus Operator Training and Accreditation

Purpose / Aim

To analyse the variety of bus-operator training systems on offer across Australian jurisdictions, and to make recommendations on a practical single national system that will harmonise the existing and future training systems.

Stakeholders/Partners

National Transport Commission (NTC).
Consultations with stakeholders including bus accreditation authorities and industry bodies in each jurisdiction, and other key interest groups.

Background

Buses operate as a major form of transport across Australia for the public and private transport system nationally. However, significant differences exist in different jurisdictions in how operators are accredited. In some there are no training requirements – while in others there are extensive training requirements.

This project will investigate the opportunity to create a national approach towards bus operator training and accreditation. A new framework will be put forward, which takes into account the varying jurisdictions and meets industry and government needs.
