NCS works with Zoos Victoria

Zoos Victoria have been funded by Skills Victoria to develop Zoos Victoria as leaders in conservation and ‘skills for sustainability.’ The initiative has been titled “Skill up Green”

Part of the process is to commence a pilot of their ‘Green Team’ staff applying for RPL via the Skills Store to gain recognition of their skills and knowledge towards two accredited units of competency:

  • Participate in environmentally sustainable work practices.
  • Implement and monitor environmentally sustainable work practices.

The National Centre for Sustainability has been contracted to develop and carry out the RPL assessment process.

On 5th and 6th May 2010, Brooke Farrugia and Jose Chavez presented to the Zoos Vic Green Team staff at Healesville Sanctuary and Melbourne Zoo on the RPL process. The Green Team staff were very responsive and are now in the process of collecting their evidence for their RPL assessment to be completed in June 2010.

Zoos Victoria will carry out a skills audit of Zoos staff in the near future to identify and validate skills gaps and knowledge needs among staff with an emphasis on ‘skills for sustainability’.
