World Environment Day
May 2006
World Environment Day is Monday 5 May! There are ways you can help celebrate!
Swinburne Students at Prahran have organised a Campus Festival (noon - 2pm today) to celebrate the day including a debate on the merits of nuclear energy, art installations constructed of disposable coffee cups, live music, activities and information for passers by and yummy vegetarian food.
Swinburne has also chosen this week to re-launch its Green Office Program. Green Purchasing seminars are being held this Thursday at Hawthorn, Wantirna and Croydon. Find more info at www.swinburne.edu.au/ncs/swingreenoffice - including news about Swinburne's Green Transport Plan and our competition winners!
Further afield - The theme adopted by the United Nations this year is Desert and Desertification in recognition of the massive effects that climate change and unsustainable farming practises are having on the world's ever expanding desert fringes. Explore it at http://www.unep.org/wed/2006/english
And of course - the National Centre for Sustainability is working on a range of projects aimed at making the way we all live, learn and work more sustainable. For more info about anything listed here, contact NCS on 9210 1903
