Environment Week @ Swinburne May 3 - 6 2005

May 2005

Swinburne Hawthorn and Prahran Campuses came alive during environment week with live music, free food, information stalls and activities. Environment week, organised by SSU Environment Collective was held to raise awareness of environmental issues and promote sustainability. Students and staff were given the opportunity to get free information and ask questions on a range of issues. Wilderness Society, K & S Waste, Alternative Fuels & Energy, Friends of the Earth and student clubs & societies set up displays with flyers and giveaways. Votes were submitted for a sustainability photo competition and around 80 students completed a survey on waste and food recycling on campus. An offsite excursion to the Port Phillip Eco Centre gave students the opportunity to see a working example of a sustainable house. Andrew Rickard, Project Manager of the National Centre for Sustainability gave a stimulating presentation on the Ecological Footprint. Thanks to Mihirangi for providing enlightening entertainment and to Pure Therapeutics and Food not Bombs for sensational vegetarian food.

This year a Photography and Art Competition was held as part of Environment Week. Click here to view the winning entries.
