Lets go for a ride!

March 2005

Bicycle Victoria in partnership with Parks Victoria is pleased to announce an exciting new free event:

Bike Path Discovery Day!
Sunday 20 March 2005
Let's go for a ride!

Discover Melbourne's wonderful parks as you ride along great bike paths to your indulgent destination - the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival at Federation Square!

We have identified six paths located around Melbourne that participants can choose to ride:

bullet

Bay Trail starting from National Water Sports Centre

bullet

Gardiners Creek/Scotchmans Creek Trail starting from Jells Park

bullet

Main Yarra Trail starting from Westerfolds Park

bullet

Moonee Ponds Creek Trail starting from Woodlands Park (Parks Victoria advised due to storm damage, parts of the park will be closed. We are looking to finalise a suitable starting point along the trail)

bullet

Maribyrnong River Trail starting from Pipemakers Park

bullet

Western Bay Trail starting from Trunganina Park - 100 Steps to Federation

You can pick your own start time between 9am and 12 noon. You can start anywhere along the trail of your choice making the ride as long or as short as you like. All trails will lead into the finish at Federation Square for the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival.

Lots going on in town: Park your bike at a designated bike parking area and discover the treats in the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival. Sunday highlights include caffeine-fuelled jazz and latin rhythms on the main stage, chocolate indulgence at Zinc, kids activities at Art Play and the final of the Australian Barista Championship! In addition Moomba's Waterfest will be on and the Dragon Boats will be racing on the river.

Register free online (http://www.bv.com.au, Search: Discovery Day) to have a free Parkways Guide waiting for you at one of six Park starts and be eligible to win some great prizes. For more: Phone Bicycle Victoria on 1800 616 600

Registrations will be taken on the day.

The more people on the day, the more we can raise the profile of the bike paths and exert pressure on local councils to improve trails where it is deemed necessary. So please tell your family, friends and work colleagues about this fabulous day.
