Gearing up for Around the Bay in a Day

October 2004

53 enthusiastic Swinburne staff from across all divisions and areas are training for the Around the Bay in a Day cycling fundraiser to be held on Sunday 17 October. TAFE’s National Centre for Sustainability has coordinated Swinburne’s team entry for this event, along with Swinergy (Swinburne University Sport and Recreation).

Enthusiastic Swinburne Participants in Around the Bay in a Day

Around the Bay in a Day is a challenging 210-kilometre ride that circumnavigates Port Phillip Bay. The majority of the Swinburne team begin at The Docklands and ride west to Queenscliff before crossing the bay on ferries to complete the ride. Twelve team members will ride the 100km challenge from Sorrento to Melbourne.

Team members have been training for the event on weekends and been busy raising money for The Smith Family.

Team coordinators, Michael Hudson and Kathryn Donnelly, said that team members will soon receive their own cycling jerseys, which they will wear during training and on race day. Swinergy has offered support for the team by providing transport, conducting information sessions and fitness assessments.
