NET Working for Sustainability

Anticipated Network Outcomes

Development of objectives and goals for the network at the first forum.

A network accessible to groups of TAFE teachers, industry, Government and Registered Training Organisation (RTO's) participating in network grouping(s) for “Sustainability Education”, and which can be maintained and further developed over time.

The content of the program/forums will be an integrated package with a range of elements from simple ‘environmental awareness’ requirements, to elements requiring more detailed environmental knowledge and skills.

Environmental concerns will be linked to a “triple-bottom-line” view of the workplace, with development of skills in assessing environmental, social and financial considerations.

Teachers will be introduced to and able to use the newly developed Resource Bank to download and submit materials. This was developed by NCS with funding from the Department of ENvirnment and Heritage at the Federal level..

Use of Australian developed environmental calculators: Teachers will be able to use the “EcoFoot calculator” and understand the basic operating principles of other environmental impact calculators such as the Greenhouse Calculator / the Home water Investigator / the car Eco-meter / etc.

Use of International environmental calculators: Teachers will be able to operate some basic international calculators. eg… www.safeclimate.net/calculator, / www.carbonneutral.com/calculators.

Teachers will be aware of the Guideline Standards for Sustainability and the ‘cross-industry environmental competency standards’ in the various training packages, and the resources available for teaching them.

An ongoing network for participating teachers will be established, with support base at the National Centre for Sustainability.
