Back in the late 1950’s-60’s growing up in the Victorian country town of Tecoma, I remember the lakes, rivers, dams, and water were plentiful. I was able to catch
tadpoles in the dams, go fishing in lakes, swimming in rivers, and just enjoy the outdoors. The drinking water was fresh from water tanks etc. The lakes and
wetlands were full, which produced a lot of wild life, which was great to experience.
But these days with modern progress, such as housing development and buildings and businesses, a lot of these places have gone for good. Pollution, ozone layer, the government, and we ourselves, have made this environment, like it is today. There are a lot more motor vehicles on the roads, a lot more highways being built and fluoride being added to our water supply. All of this has contributed to the state of our water resources these days. It makes me feel sad and angry, because future generations are not going to be able to enjoy the freedom of visiting, or even seeing the waterways and dams as I did. If future generations are going to be able to experience anything like what I have, things need to change.
