I interviewed my mum, Annette McClure 43.

When she was young and growing up on the family farm Pootilla, near both Kirks and White Swan Reservoirs, she remembers a plentiful supply of water in the reservoirs and in the dams on the farm.

The weekly rains and heavy falls (sometimes even snow) during the winter made the paddocks lush and green and made the reservoirs fill.

Since that time, climatic conditions have changed dramatically. We now have long periods of hot, humid and sunny weather drying out our soils and evaporating our water supply.

Our stock suffers, our crops suffer and we suffer. The lack of water over the last decade has had a detrimental effect on household lawns and gardens.

The water crisis saddens me as a water consumer, however we are extremely lucky at our house because my husband is a Water Carter and keeps our garden green and our pool full.

Let’s hope the super pipe brings many mega litres of water to our diminishing water supply so that we can all enjoy our gardens again.
