When you were my age how did you get around?

I walked to school and walked home for lunch every day. We rode our bikes and went for drives with some of my brothers and my parents. When I got to secondary school I was at a boarding school in Melbourne. I caught a train from Numurkah (town near Shepparton) to Melbourne and then caught a suburban train to Gardenvale station then a bus to my school.

Did people use airplanes and ships to get around?

Unlike children your age very few people took 11 or 12 year old children on holidays by airplane. Many people had to travel in the inlands because the noise was so loud and it would frighten the people living in cities. In the 60’s and 70’s many young people travelled to England on ships. This changed with the introduction of more airlines. It has been a quite resent change in people returning to ships for travel but mainly on pleasure cruisers.

What has changed about transport?

Trains were faster than when I was young. There are more cars on the roads and there are more free ways. Transport is much safer and more comfortable and there are now air conditioners.

How much did petrol cost when you started to drive?

I cannot remember exactly, but I could fill my car for $5

How much has water gone down?

Well I remember sitting by the side of the reservoirs and they would almost be over flowing and on rainy days they would over flow and now they are only around 5% full.

Is the water better or worse & how?

The water quality is better. When I was younger we were not allowed to collect rain water in cities for two reasons
1) The water was not pure
2) The council sold water to people
