Transport

When I was younger there were less motor cars on the road, less pollution from the vehicles and not as much space was needed for car parks. We used to ride bikes or walk everywhere. There were no car rides to school. Our family used to walk a mile an a half to school. Groceries were packed in paper bags, newspaper or carried in baskets because there were no plastic bags. There were plenty of little rivers or steams in our town in which we could catch fish. The lake was prone to flooding…now it is empty.

Land Use

There were a lot more open spaces. Farms were smaller. Most of them were owned and run by families. There were paddocks for ponies and goats and we had a house cow and chooks.

There was no factory farming like there is now. There were more open spaces for sports grounds and wild life. There was less concrete and tar, more green open areas in towns and in the country. House blocks were better and there was more space between houses.
