City of Whitehorse Sustainability Ambassadors

STATUS: COMPLETED

The City of Whitehorse Sustainability Ambassadors program sought to develop a group of community members with an interest and passion for sustainability to become leaders, change agents and ambassadors for sustainability in the City of Whitehorse. The program assisted participants to develop a working knowledge of the key issues affecting behaviour change and to formulate and implement a behaviour change program.

The program was run in conjunction with the Whitehorse City Council Living for our Future program which aimed to work with households across the City of Whitehorse to move towards living more sustainably at home.

The program was supported by the Victorian Government Sustainability Fund.

Three phases of the Sustainable Ambassador program were run over 2008-2010.

The City of Whitehorse Sustainability Ambassadors program participants undertook the Behaviour Change unit of the accredited Diploma of Sustainability. As part of completing one accredited unit of the Diploma of Sustainability, participants were required to complete an assessed behaviour change project, which included planning, implementing and presenting back to their fellow participants.

The third (final) phase of the Ambassadors program targeted the Whitehorse Chinese speaking community. The behaviour change training was delivered in a non-accredited format, but included most of the elements of the accredited teaching resources which were delivered in Chinese.
